ABOUT PACK 637

Pack 637 is open to boy and girls grades K-5. The majority of den meetings are held in western Springfield (Butler and Black Hawk Elementary) with pack meetings held throughout Sangamon County.

We're located in the Abraham Lincoln District. Our local  Council is the Sangamon Council and our pack's chartered organization is South Side Church.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to prepare children to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes, focusing on character, leadership, fitness, and citizenship through fun, hands-on activities like outdoor adventures and community service.

Our Cub Scouts are guided by the Scout Oath and Law. It's about building lifelong skills by encouraging kids to be trustworthy, helpful, loyal, and to do their best.

DENS EXPLAINED

Cub Scout dens are organized by grade level, with each level working toward a specific rank badge. Each den focuses on grade-level appropriate activities like adventures, games, and skill-building, led by parent volunteers who facilitate fun, hands-on learning and promote leadership, with younger dens (Lions & Tigers) requiring an adult partner at every meeting for guidance and shared leadership. Dens work on requirements from their handbooks, earning ranks as they progress, and meet several times a month, often with support from the whole pack.

RANK ADVANCEMENT

Cub Scouts advance through the ranks by completing specific adventures in each den level. To earn a rank badge, Cub Scouts must complete a specific number of "adventures," which are themed sets of activities found in their grade-specific handbooks.

Scouts progress toward their rank based on their grade level, not necessarily by having earned previous ranks. Earning a rank below a Cub Scout's current grade is generally not permitted.

Adventure Loops.jpg
ADVENTURE LOOPS
  • Who earns them? Lion (Kindergarten), Tiger (1st grade), Wolf (2nd grade), and Bear (3rd grade) Cub Scouts.

  • What are they? Small, metal loops that slide onto the official Cub Scout blue belt.

  • Purpose: They serve as immediate recognition for completing individual "adventures" (specific sets of requirements) within their rank's program.

  • Advancement: To earn their main rank badge, a Cub Scout must complete six required adventures and at least two elective adventures. Each adventure completed earns them a loop.

ADVENTURE PINS
  • Who earns them? Webelos (4th grade) and Arrow of Light (5th grade) Scouts.

  • What are they? Pins that are placed on a special display device called the "Adventure Colors" (a triangular patch) or a Webelos cap. They do not go on the main uniform shirt.

  • Purpose: Like adventure loops, these pins are awarded for completing specific adventures within the Webelos and Arrow of Light programs, which are designed to prepare them for Scouts BSA.

  • Advancement: To earn their main rank badge, a Cub Scout must complete six required adventures and at least two elective adventures. Each adventure completed earns them a loop.
